Leonid Grin, teacher of masterclassesLeonid Grin is a well-known conductor with an impressive international career, conducting the world's finest orchestras and operas and working together with famous soloists. Born in Ukraine, he gave his first piano recital at the age of 7, and won the Young Composers Competition at 11. Later he studied composition and conducting under Leo Ginsburg and Kiril Kondrashin at the Moscow Conservatory. Before emigrating to the United States in 1981, he conducted many orchestras and ensembles of the Soviet Union. In the States, Maestro Leonard Bernstein chose Leonard Grin to study in the first Los Angeles Philharmonic Institute, what gave him the privilege of conducting in three Hollywood Bowl concerts. He has conducted extensively in Germany, France, Spain, Denmark, Sweden, Norway, Finland, Israel, New Zealand and Canada, appearing with such leading orchestras as the Göteborg Symphony, the Berlin Radio Orchestra, the Frankfurt Radio Orchestra and the Helsinki Philharmonic, among others. He has conducted the Orquesta Philharmonica de Buenos Aires at the Teatro Colon on several occasions, including a program with Itzhak Perlman as soloist. He has also enjoyed collaborations with soloists Kathleen Battle, Evgeny Kissin, Yo-Yo Ma, Isaac Stern and Frederica von Stade. Recent and upcoming engagements include the Cincinnati Symphony, Kuoppio Symphony, Belgrade Philharmonic, Nürnberg Philharmonic, Tenerife Symphony Orchestra, Kiel Philharmonic, concerts at the Enescu Music Festival in Bucharest with Misha Maisky, and return performances with the Gran Canaria Philharmonic. Dedicated to working with young artists, Mr. Grin also joins Maestro Neeme Järvi in giving conducting master classes at the Neeme Järvi Summer Academy. In addition to that he has proven to be an excellent teacher attracting many young students from all over the world and being responsible for educating the greatest career making talents of the younger generation of conductors such as Paavo Järvi, Carlos Spierer, Felipe Hidalgo, Phillipe Traugott and others. We are therefore very proud, that Leonid Grin will be our teacher in the conductors winter masterclass . He studied composition and conducting under Leo Ginsburg and Kiril Kondrashin and is therefore a good representative of the excellent technique and knowledge of the old Russian school of conducting
